Gas prices up in Tacoma, Olympia; down nationwide

Gas prices in the Tacoma area have risen 8.4 cents per gallon in the past week reaching an average of $3.19 per gallon, according to the price-tracking service

The Tacoma price compares with a national average that has fallen 1.1 cents over the past week to an average price of $2.80 per gallon.

The service stated Monday (June 22) that the lowest price in the Tacoma area, $2.97 per gallon, could be found at two Costco outlets and two Arco stations.

In Thurston County, the lowest price, $2.99 per gallon, was available at two Martin Way Arco stations.

“Unfortunately, now Oregon and Washington seem to be seeing price increases as supply has become tighter,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.

“Overall, gasoline prices remain relatively quiet with the national average dropping just over a penny in the last week,” he said. “Meanwhile, diesel prices have closed the gap between gasoline prices and have been dropping since the end of May.”
