Overview
The 2026 GMC Canyon is a mid-size pickup truck offered in four trim levels. A turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder producing 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque pairs with an eight-speed automatic throughout the range, with rear-wheel drive standard on the Elevation and four-wheel drive standard on the AT4, Denali, and AT4X. GMC builds the Canyon on the same platform as the Chevrolet Colorado, with the Canyon offering more standard tech and upmarket cabin materials. The Canyon would attract buyers who want mid-size truck practicality with a premium cabin and genuine off-road capability, without stepping into full-size pricing.
What's New for 2026?
The only new exterior color for the 2026 Canyon is Coastal Dune. Denali Black Edition and Nightfall Edition models now carry black badging as part of their standard specification. The Nightfall Essentials package extends that darkened aesthetic to the three lower trims, bundling all-terrain tires, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and blacked-out badging as an orderable group.
The AT4X gains a factory lift kit option with Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers for buyers who want better suspension performance. Ordering the optional 18-inch aluminum wheels now means accepting a gloss black finish, as GMC has dropped the dark grey variant from the options list. Boron steel AEV skid plates are now offered as standalone options.
Exterior
The Canyon's crew cab profile is consistent across the range, with a five-foot bed as the only configuration. Elevation trims run 18-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires as standard, while the AT4 adds a two-inch factory lift, an ultra-wide front and rear track, and horizontal red recovery hooks.
Denali trims shift toward premium styling with 20-inch diamond-cut dark grey aluminum wheels and chrome exterior detailing that distinguishes the grade from the off-road-focused trims. The AT4X carries a three-inch factory lift and 285/70R17 all-terrain tires with flared bodywork sized to suit. The Nightfall Essentials package lets buyers on the three lower trims add 20-inch aluminum wheels and black badging without changing trim levels.
Interior
An 11.3-inch touchscreen running Google built-in with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across every Canyon pick-up truck. Elevation models seat five in cloth, while the AT4 upgrades to leatherette and cloth upholstery with heated front seats and remote start included as standard. Denali trims add perforated leather seating, laser-etched open-pore wood trim, a Bose Premium audio system, and a 6.3-inch multicolor head-up display without requiring optional packages.
Wireless charging and the 360-degree surround camera are standard on Denali and AT4X, but optional on the Elevation and AT4. Second-row passengers have more knee room than a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma occupant would find, which is worth noting given the Canyon's fixed crew cab configuration.
Price Range and Best Value Trim
The 2026 GMC Canyon's price range covers four trims, before the optional AT4X AEV Edition packages are added. The AT4 is the best value in the lineup, adding four-wheel drive, a factory lift, MultiStow tailgate storage, heated front seats, remote start, and recovery hooks as standard for $6,600 over the Elevation.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Class-leading 430 lb-ft of torque from the 2.7-liter TurboMax.
- Factory lift and off-road suspension are standard on every trim.
- 7,700-lb tow rating leads the midsize segment.
- Google Built-In with an 11.3-inch touchscreen is standard across all grades.
Cons
- Crew Cab short-bed is the only body configuration offered.
- AT4X fuel economy drops to 17 mpg combined on regular pavement.
- Rear seat comfort trails rivals on longer drives.
Verdict
The 2026 Canyon makes some notable additions rather than anything substantial over the previous year. The Nightfall Essentials package and the AT4X factory lift kit are the most meaningful updates for buyers evaluating specific trims. The TurboMax engine's torque output and class-leading 7,700-pound tow rating on three of the four trims remain the headline capability advantages over the segment. The three-year basic warranty and the fixed crew cab and five-foot bed combination are the two trade-offs worth comparing directly against rivals.
