Gas prices rise less than 3 cents a gallon

The climb continues for fuel prices in the area.

Average prices around Tacoma have risen 2.5 cents a gallon in the past week, according to GasBuddy’s weekly news release. Nationally, prices have risen 3.9 cents a gallon.

Despite the rise, prices are still nearly 50 cents cheaper per gallon than this time last year, the release noted.

“The first week of the summer driving season saw the national average price of gasoline rise by less than 4 cents per gallon, but some states saw much greater volatility resulting from regional refinery setbacks and/or wholesale fuel spikes,” said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

On Monday, the average price in Tacoma for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.62 a gallon, according to tacomagasprices.com, with the lowest price in the Tacoma area, $2.29 a gallon, found at the 76 station at Meridian and Milton Way. In Tacoma, Costco on 37th and Steele streets and Arco on Orchard and 56th streets were tied for lowest at $2.36 a gallon.

In Olympia, the lowest price was $2.39 a gallon at two Arco stations, both on Martin Way East, according to washingtongasprices.com.
