A third of homes nationwide were cash sales in December — that’s down compared with the same time the year before, when 36.7 percent of homes were cash sales.

In Tacoma and Lakewood, that fraction is lower still — nearly one in five homes here were bought with cash in December 2015, down from about one in four the year before, according to California-based data analytics company CoreLogic.

Washington is among the lowest states for percent of cash sales, at 22 percent. Delaware home buyers used cash for 57 percent of purchases in December, followed by Alabama at 50 percent and New York at 46.5 percent.
