Pierce County reports nearly 90 new COVID-19 cases in Wednesday update. Outbreaks up

Pierce County reported 89 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and no additional deaths.

County totals are now 8,778 confirmed cases and 182 deaths since the first case in the coronavirus pandemic was recorded March 6.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has reported 855 cases in the past 14 days. The 14-day case rate per 100,000 people is 94.8.

Average cases per day over the past 14 days are 61.1.

With a six-day data lag required in the state’s Safe Start measurements, the county’s case rate per 100,000 is 87.1.

There are an estimated 1,510 still-active cases in the county.

Nine outbreaks of two or more cases were reported the week of Oct. 3, up from three the week of Sept. 25.

The Fred Meyer Distribution Center in Puyallup continues to be the sole business listed with an outbreak among businesses with 60 or more workers and 10 or more confirmed cases.

The distribution center now has 42 cases, up from 33 reported last week.
