New drive-thru COVID-19 testing site for Pierce County opening in Dupont

A new COVID-19 testing site for Pierce County will open Tuesday in DuPont at the State Farm parking lot.

The drive-thru site at 1000 Wilmington Dr. will open later than usual at 11 a.m. on its first day to give staff a chance to set up. Then, the site’s regular hours will be Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be open through Feb. 5.

Tests are free and appointments are not required. The site does not offer rapid tests. Results will be available to people three to five days from when they are tested.

Pierce County and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department are operating a number of sites where people can get tested for the coronavirus.

The new site replaces Pierce County Emergency Management’s temporary test site at Spanaway Park. Spokesperson Mike Halliday said daily testing has slowed down compared to three weeks ago when the county’s test sites were seeing 1,000 or more people looking to get tested each day.

On Friday, the Spanaway Park site administered 489 tests, and on Saturday, it tested 390 people.
