Less than a month before the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, South Sound residents will gather this week to honor the United States’ veterans.
Here are some of the ceremonies scheduled:
Friday (Nov. 11)
Parkland Pacific Dental
What: Free cleanings, exams, fillings and extractions for veterans in need with a DD214 form.

Boulevard of Remembrance Ceremony
What: Commemoration of World War I veterans and the South Sound’s military heritage with a program that features speakers who include I Corps Deputy Commanding General for Operations Brig. Gen. Dany Fortin.
Where: Lakewood City Hall, council chambers, 6000 Main St. SW, Lakewood
When: 2 p.m.
Tacoma Historical Society and American Legion Post 8
What: Program includes speech by Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty, commander of Washington Army and Air National Guard forces, followed by lunch at VFW Post 10018.
Where: War Memorial Park, near Sixth Avenue and South Jackson Street, Tacoma.
When: 11 a.m.
Tahoma National Cemetery
What: Program includes flyover by King County sheriff’s helicopter and speeches by World War II Navy veteran Milt Till and Arlene Murray of the Tahoma Chapter of the Gold Star wives.
Where: 18600 SE 240th St., Kent.
When: 11 a.m.
Buffalo Soldiers Museum
What: Program includes remarks and book-signing by historian and author John Langellier.
Where: Star Center Tacoma, 3873 S. 66th St.
When: 6-8 p.m.
Yelm Church of Latter-day Saints
What: Program includes speech by retired Air Force Col. John Thomson.
Where: 10243 Clark Road SE, Yelm.
