A Tacoma man was killed when his car was sheared in half in a wreck late Friday on Schuster Parkway in Tacoma, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.
The driver’s side of the car fell onto Interstate 705, where it was hit by a van with seven people inside, all of whom were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, Battalion Chief Dave England said early Saturday.
Pierce County medical examiners identified the dead driver as Emmanuel Solorio-Lemus, 22, of Tacoma.
The wreck happened about 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Schuster Parkway, England said, when the driver lost control of the car and struck a guard rail, splitting the car in half.
“You’d have to go up and over a concrete barrier, so I’d imagine speed was a factor,” England said.
England said he could not remember a crash like that happening in the area.
