A Tacoma firefighter was hurt Wednesday while battling a blaze at a vacant home.

The fire was reported just after 6 a.m. in a vacant house in the 6300 block of North Hale Street.

Crews worked to knock down the heavy flames for about an hour before getting the fire under control.

The firefighter was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries. Hours later, he was doing “OK,” a department spokesman said.

Investigators were working to determine what started the fire.
