A brush fire grew overnight in East Pierce County, forcing the evacuation of at least five homes as the flames moved closer to a neighborhood.
The blaze started as about 9:30 p.m. as a five-acre burn between Orting and South Prairie.
About 60 firefighters from East Pierce, Graham, Orting, Central Pierce, Enumclaw and the state Department of Natural Resources responded and focused on protecting houses.

Just before 2 a.m., crews were able to contain the fire, and residents who had been asked to evacuate were allowed back in their homes.
No one was injured.
It’s unclear what started the fire.
