A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a bridge support on the state Route 7 extension off Interstate 705 in Tacoma.

Witnesses reported that the 60-year-old motorcycle driver was driving southbound at the posted speed limit, Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Brooke Bova said.

“For some reason, he lost control of his bike and then he struck a concrete pillar,” Bova said.

The accident occurred around noon where Interstate 705 becomes state Route 7, between Interstate 5 and the East 34th Street bridge.

The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene.
