A grand opening is set for the new pickleball courts at Rainer Vista Community Park in Lacey, according to the city’s parks and recreation department. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 5475 45th Ave. SE.

Members of Lacey City Council and the city’s parks board will hit the inaugural pickleballs. Local pickleball enthusiasts, according to a city news release, will be on hand to demonstrate and teach the sport.

Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Two, three or four players use solid paddles made of wood, or composite materials, to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net.
