Gender X birth certificates? Have your say on third gender option at public hearing
An option to have birth certificates reissued with a gender designation neither male nor female could soon be a reality for Washington natives.
But first the state Department of Health, which has proposed the change, wants to know what the public thinks.
The department is holding a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed addition of a third option for sex designation on existing birth certificates.
The hearing will be held 1-5 p.m. Tuesday at Point Plaza East, 310 Israel Road SE, Tumwater.
If adopted, the change would include requirements for individuals to request the change on their birth certificate. The option would apply to people who already have a Washington birth certificate.
