1 killed, 1 critically injured after running red light and hitting semi truck

A man was killed and a woman critically injured early Friday after their car slammed into a semi-trailer in Kent, police said.

The collision happened about 12:45 a.m. at South 196th Street and 68th Avenue South.

Officers said the man driving the car was traveling west when he apparently ran a red light and struck the semi, wedging the Toyota Corolla beneath the truck.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
