A 57-year-old Federal Way woman died Wednesday when she lost control of her car after striking debris on state Route 18, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

A 57-year-old Federal Way woman died Wednesday when she lost control of her car after striking debris on state Route 18, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The woman was in the eastbound lane of the highway near the Raging River when her blue 2008 Ford Focus struck debris. She lost control and the car traveled into the westbound lanes where it collided with a 2015 Jeep Cherokee.

The woman driving the Cherokee was injured and transported to Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue.

Both women wore seatbelts. The accident is under investigation. The highway was closed for several hours.
