It has rained 21 out of the last 22 days. Looking for relief? Wait for February

It’s rained most of the last three weeks, and it’s not going to let up anytime soon.

Forecasters say it could continue to rain through the rest of the month, making it a wetter than usual January.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 5.79 inches had fallen so far this month at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

January’s average rainfall is 5.57 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

That’s been good news for powder hounds since snow is dumping in the mountains.

In the last eight days, Mount Baker recorded 100 new inches of snow, Paradise on Mount Rainier had 54 new inches, Snoqualmie Pass had 49 inches, Stevens Pass had 46 inches and Alpental was up to 48 inches.

Avalanche danger across the state is considerable.

Wind is expected to join the weather party late Thursday, with gusts up to 21 mph lingering through Friday.

Officials warned about the possibility of landslides and flooding as the deluge continues for the foreseeable future.

The lowlands could get 1 to 5 inches of rain Sunday to Monday, with 4 to 9 inches of rain forecast to fall in the Cascades during the same time period.

A warm front moving in late Saturday will raise the snow levels.
