Van explodes in Puyallup parking lot, injuring driver and killing pet

A person was injured and a dog killed Wednesday when a van exploded in a Puyallup parking lot, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The fire started about 2 p.m. in the 300 block of 35th Avenue SE.

Firefighters doused the van and found the dog inside.

It’s owner was taken to a nearby hospital with minor burns.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the explosion.
