Officials identify woman killed in North Tacoma apartment fire

A 59-year-old woman killed in a Tacoma apartment fire has been identified as Debbie Mackenzie.

Firefighters were called about 2:30 a.m. Monday to a complex in the 6300 block of North 26th Street and found a second-floor unit engulfed in smoke and flames.

After crews doused the flames, they found Mackenzie’s body inside.

No other injuries were reported in the blaze.

A dozen residents were displaced from the fire.

Investigators have not determined what started the fire but believe it may have been a failed electrical outlet power strip.
