South Sound 911 said Thursday its customer service counter and headquarters will be closed to the public for the rest of the month.

The closure at 945 Tacoma Ave. S. in Tacoma is “for the health and safety of the community and staff,” the agency’s press release said.

It starts Friday and will affect people who need fingerprinting services and those who want to apply for a concealed pistol license. That application requires in-person identification and fingerprinting.

“South Sound 911 encourages members of the public to check the agency’s website or social media before visiting the service counter or its headquarters in the event the closure period is extended,” the press release said.

911 services and the non-emergency number for police, fire and medical aid calls are still available 24 hours a day. The non emergency number is 253-798-4721 or 800-562-9800.

Public records request can still be made online.
