Here’s when you can expect ramp closures near the I-5 Portland Avenue exit
Start planning some extra time for your commutes, Tacoma drivers.
Starting next week, construction crews working to widen Interstate 5 near the Portland Avenue exit will close the state Route 7 on-ramp to northbound I-5.
The Interstate 705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will also be reduced to a single lane.
The closures begin the week of July 20 and be in place for up to three weeks, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
A detour for the SR 7 ramp closure will run from northbound I-705 to state Route 509 and back to northbound I-5 using East Portland Avenue.
Crews will also move the Northbound I-5 exit 134 to Portland Avenue back by a quarter-mile to allow the ramp to remain open during daytime hours while crews finish the work.
Over the next year, construction will temporarily shift lanes along I-5 near Portland Avenue in Tacoma with the goal of helping east traffic congestion and realigning the northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue. For more information, visit wsdot.wa.gov.
