Two Tacoma boys were shot — one fatally — during a fight at a Federal Way park Monday night. Two Tacoma men also were shot, according to police.
The shooting occurred at Steel Lake Park around 10 p.m., according to Federal Way police.
A 17-year-old boy died. A 30-year-old man, a 22-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy were also shot.
“The 12-year-old victim was not part of the group that was fighting,” said Federal Way Police spokesman Casey Jones. “He was with his family, preparing to leave the park at the time of the shooting.”
The 22-year-old was transported from the park to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was reported to be in critical condition Tuesday morning, according to hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg.
The boy was transported by private vehicle to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way before authorities arrived at the park Monday night. His injuries were reported as not life-threatening.
Federal Way police said several people called 911 around 10 p.m. after hearing gunshots and yelling at the park.
“There were varying accounts given by different witnesses with some reporting up to three shooters, multiple people fighting and several rounds being fired,” Jones said.
Police believe the teenager and the 22-year-old were fighting each other. A 28-year-old female suspect is believed to have fired a gun. She was taken into custody.
An hour later, a 30-year-old man called police to say that he had been shot in the incident. He returned to the park to speak with police, Jones said.
All four of the victims and the female suspect are residents of Tacoma, police said.
Steel Lake Park is between Interstate 5 and Pacific Highway South and accessed from South 312th Street.
