Key Peninsula man killed by falling limb while clearing storm debris amid high winds

A Key Peninsula man clearing his driveway of storm debris was hit and killed by a falling limb Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The man, believed to be his 30s, was at his residence in the Vaughn area at around 4 p.m. when he was struck by the limb, which was about 6 inches in diameter, according to Key Peninsula Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Anne Nesbit.

The limb fell from approximately 50 feet, Nesbit said.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Nesbit said her department was busy Tuesday responding to storm-related calls. Winds were still blowing in excess of 20 miles per hour Tuesday, she said.

“We urge people to stay indoors until the event is over,” Nesbit said. “We’ve been going on downed lines and trees all day.”
