Here are some places offering discounted meals, services to veterans on Veterans Day

Military veterans can get breaks on a number of goods and services across the Puget Sound region Thursday in commemoration of Veterans Day.

National forests fee waiver

The Forest Service will waive fees for veterans at day‐use recreation sites at its 17 national forests in Oregon and Washington.

“The fee waiver includes many Forest Service picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers,” according to a news release. “Fees for camping, cabin rentals, or other permits still apply. Fees will continue to be charged at recreation sites operated by concessionaires unless the individual manager chooses to participate.”

Free car washes

Brown Bear Car Wash will offer free washes to all current or former members of the military. The free “Beary Clean” washes will be available at Brown Bear’s 28 tunnel wash locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The offer operates on an honor system with no verification or documentation required, according to a news release. Drivers should identify themselves as a current or former member of the military to the wash attendant upon arrival.

Hands On Children’s Museum reduced admission

Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia is offering half-price admission for veterans and military families Thursday.

The museum, 414 Jefferson St. NE, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free popcorn

The Grand Cinema is offering a free small popcorn to patrons who have a valid military ID.

Current releases include “The French Dispatch,” “Spencer,” “Mass” and “Dune.” The latter is preceded by an exclusive four-minute mini documentary on Tacoma author Frank Herbert and Dune Peninsula Park created by Metro Parks Tacoma. Masks and proof of vaccination are required.

Free pizza and seafood

Farrelli’s Pizza is offering a free personal pizza of your choice, dine-in only, to veterans and active duty military. The family-owned chain has 10 locations, including restaurants in DuPont near JBLM, Lacey, Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue, Parkland and Sumner.

Wicked Pie Pizza in Puyallup is offering a small one-topping pizza to all veterans.

At the Tacoma Narrows marina, Boathouse 19 is offering a free meal from a select menu. Alcohol is excluded.

Discounted tacos, pho, burgers, candy

Taco Street Food, located inside the Waterfront Market at Point Ruston, has two free tacos and a fountain drink with military ID.

In Tacoma’s South End, i5 Pho will extend a 10 percent discount with military ID.

Lucky’s Drive-In in Parkland will honor a 20 percent discount for veterans and active duty military.

Johnson Candy Co. on Hilltop is offering a 15 percent discount to veterans and active duty military.

Coffee discounts and donations

Campfire Coffee, a Black and veteran-owned Tacoma roastery and cafe, is offering any coffee drink free with military ID or proof of service.

Happy Belly, a health-focused cafe with fresh juice, salads and sandwiches, always offers a 20 percent military discount. The owner’s sister and nephew have both served.

At the Waterfront Market at Point Ruston, Dancing Goats Coffee Bar is offering a free 12-ounce drip coffee to all veterans.

Kimball Coffeehouse in Gig Harbor will donate 25 percent of all sales to the PTSD Foundation.

Also in Gig Harbor, Davenport Coffee will offer all veterans and active duty military 10 percent off their purchase.

The Brew Coffee and Tea, a drive-through stand in Lakewood, always offers a military discount and today will take $1 off any drink for veterans and active duty military.

Free and discounted doughnuts

The Original House of Donuts in Lakewood and Lacey will offer a free doughnut with a hole (no cinnamon rolls, for instance) with military ID or uniform.

Milkvue Donuts, known for their mochi doughnuts, in Gig Harbor is offering a 15 percent discount to service members.

Beer and wine discounts

Top Down Brewing Company, new to Sumner this fall, is offering 11 percent off their bill. On Thursdays, the brewery regularly offers teachers a discount as well. Food truck Fat Zach’s Pizza will also be on-site.

In Gig Harbor, Millville Pizza Co. will have all-day happy hour prices for veterans.

Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District will take $1 off draft pours for veterans and active duty military. The beer bar also has Valhalla IPA on tap: the fourth edition of a Veterans Day collaboration between two local, veteran-owned breweries, Forward Operating Base Brewing Co. in DuPont and Task Force Brewing, which will open a Lakewood taproom next year.

The Redd Dog, Tacoma’s first U-Pour It beer bar, offers 20 percent off all pours (beer, cider, wine, kombucha) every day with a valid military ID.

Odd Otter Brewing in downtown Tacoma is offering a 25 percent discount on all draft pours, not just on Veterans Day but all week.

7 Seas Brewing is offering half-off all pints at both the Tacoma and Gig Harbor taprooms today.

Pint Defiance, a bottle shop and beer bar in Tacoma’s West End, will offer $1 off draft pours for veterans and active duty military.

In Enumclaw, Leony Cellars, a veteran-owned family winery, has complimentary tastings and a 10 percent discount on all purchases.
