Rain returns to Western Washington and maybe a little lowland snow, too

Rain returned to Western Washington over the weekend, but clearer skies are blowing into the region, dropping temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday and allowing for snow in the mountains, a forecaster with the National Weather Service said Sunday.

Snow levels are expected to drop to around 1,000 feet, but whether they drop below that remains to be seen. Forecasts calls for lows of 30 Tuesday and Wednesday in Olympia.

But even Monday, gusty winds made temperatures in the 40s feel 10 degrees colder.

Meteorologist Mary Butwin said rain showers could be a mixture of rain and snow in South Sound on Tuesday. North of Seattle could be a different story. The Bellingham area appears to have the greatest chance of snow Tuesday night.

But temperatures are expected to rise by mid-week as rain showers settle in. Highs are expected to be in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 30s by week’s end.
