South Sound heat breaks record, expected to hold through weekend

The South Sound saw record-breaking heat Tuesday, and the sunny weather is expected to hold through the holiday weekend.

A high of 92 was measured at the Sea-Tac Airport, breaking the previous record of 89, set last year, according to the National Weather Service.

At McChord Field at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, for which historical records were not immediately available, also reached 92 Tuesday.

Temperatures in the Tacoma area are supposed to fall slightly as the week goes on, but stay in the high and mid 70s.

Wednesday’s high is forecast to be 79. Thursday’s is expected to be 73 with highs of 74 on Friday and Saturday at McChord.

Sunny weather is expected until Saturday, when there’s a chance of showers in the evening.
