Woman walking along tracks in Tacoma hit and killed by train

A 41-year-old woman was killed Thursday after a train hit her as she walked along the tracks beneath the Murray Morgan Bridge in Tacoma, police said.

The accident happened about 8:25 a.m. in the 1100 block of Dock Street, police said.

“She was walking with her head down on the tracks, not paying attention,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The southbound Amtrak commuter train blew its horn four or five times to warn the woman. Witnesses said she never lifted her head.

Cool said the fatal accident is not believed to be a suicide.

The woman, who was a transient, has not been identified.
