A three-car crash in Puyallup on Saturday evening around 5 p.m. sent two people to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
Puyallup police Capt. Scott Engle provided this account:
A pickup driven by a 32-year-old man was westbound on River Road when it struck a Volkswagon Jetta in the turn lane at River Road and 15th Street Northwest. The pickup then hit a Ford Focus head-on that was eastbound on River Road.
The driver of the Focus, a 50-year-old woman, had life-threatening injuries and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. The driver of the pickup, a man, also was taken to Tacoma General, though his injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the Jetta, a 46-year-old Seattle man, was not hurt.

Eastbound River Road was closed for several hours. The pickup driver was going very fast, and police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
