There will be walkers. There will be bikers. There will be runners.
But cars best avoid Ruston Way in Tacoma on Sunday, as the city hosts its second annual Downtown to Defiance event.
Metro Parks Tacoma will shut down most lanes of the street as people make their way from Point Defiance to the Foss Waterway Esplanade downtown, and then back.
All lanes of Ruston Way will be closed to vehicles from 8 to 10 a.m. One lane will be opened at 10 a.m. All lanes will be opened at noon.

Instead of sticking to the path along the Ruston waterfront, people on foot and on bikes will have free reign of the street for the 7-mile event.
It’s free, and the first 600 who preregister at downtowntodefiance.com get a cinchpack. Participants can register up to Sunday morning.
Cyclists will start leaving at 8 a.m., and walkers and runners will join them about half an hour later.
There will be food trucks and entertainment at Point Defiance Park.
