The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse will double donations for the long-awaited YMCA in Sumner.
The local business announced last week that it will match donations, up to $50,000, for the Gordon Family YMCA in Sumner, which will open next year after more than five years of planning, funding and outreach by the community and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. The future recreation facility is named for Gordon Trucking, which has employed nearly 1,000 residents in and around the area since 1946.
Donation matching started over the weekend and all of the contributions will support construction of the Y, said Michelle LaRue, senior vice president of the regional YMCA.
LaRue said that every person who donates $250-$5,000 will have their name engraved on a brick at the Gordon Y on top of The Old Cannery’s doubled donation.
