A Federal Way police officer was nearly run over while trying to stop a stolen vehicle Saturday, Kent police said.
Police were looking for a Mercedes-Benz SUV and suspects who escaped in it. The car was stolen from Kent.
Federal Way police put down spike strips to disable the 2002 Mercedes in the 31200 block of Pacific Highway South about 4 a.m. Saturday.
But the driver drove directly toward the officer, intending to hit the officer, said Kent police, who were assisting in the investigation.

The officer moved out of the way in time to avoid being hit and fired several shots at the Mercedes, Kent police said. The driver fled in the SUV.
Kent police asked for the public’s help Saturday in locating the Mercedes and in identifying the suspects.
The silver Mercedes has a Washington license plate of 559-ZCW.
