Fire crews put out house fire in South Hill that displaced 4 residents

Fire heavily damaged a home in South Hill on Sunday evening. People inside evacuated, and firefighters extinguished the flames.

Crews from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the single-story house fire near 128th Street East and 78th Avenue East at 7:26 p.m., spokesperson Capt. Darrin Shaw said. Video of the fire showed flames bursting from the roof and a large amount of smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters’ progress was slowed by a power line across the street from the home that fell as a result of the fire. Shaw said the fire was under control by about 7:45 p.m.

Four adults and a dog got out safely. Shaw said he was uncertain if a cat made it out. The Red Cross said volunteers were notified of the house fire and assistance would be provided as needed for the displaced adults.

Several vehicles in the front and back of the home also burned.

What caused the fire is not yet known. Shaw said the Pierce County fire marshal is investigating.
