Update: Police identify man killed in motorcycle crash on Key Peninsula

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday morning on Key Peninsula in a single-vehicle collision, Washington State Patrol troopers said.

The collision occurred at about 11:35 a.m. on state Route 302 near the junction with 159th Avenue Northwest, Trooper Robert Reyer said in a tweet. A WSP news release identified the deceased as 54-year-old John Kessler, of Puyallup. He was wearing a helmet.

The incident temporarily blocked traffic on the highway in both directions while collision specialists investigated, Reyer said. The road was blocked for half an hour.

The man was traveling west when he veered off the road to the right and crashed into brush, Reyer said. The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but Reyer said there was no indication the man braked. He said it was possible the man had a medical emergency.

A single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Key Peninsula left one person dead Saturday, Washington State Patrol troopers said.
