Fire crews need their tallest ladder to rescue parachutist stuck in tree on Lakewood golf course

An Army parachutist became entangled 100 feet above American Lake Veterans Golf Course in Lakewood after he flew off course and landed in a tree Thursday afternoon.

Crews from West Pierce Fire & Rescue were able to use their ladder truck’s 100-foot-long ladder to trim limbs from the mature conifer, enabling the parachutist to climb down.

He was uninjured after spending roughly an hour in the tree top.

“He was just very thankful that we were able to get him down,” said West Pierce spokesperson Hallie McCurdy.

The golf course is across Interstate 5 from the main portion of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The parachutist departed the scene with Army personnel. The parachute remained in the tree.
