The water alliance that owns Lake Tapps will hold an open house June 2 to provide information on efforts to keep the reservoir clean and thriving for years to come.

Lake Tapps, in East Pierce County, not only is a source of recreation but also a future source of drinking water for members of the Cascade Water Alliance.

According to a press release by the alliance, the open house will be used to inform people about the reservoir and ways to keep it safe and clean.

Alison Bennett is the alliance’s intergovernmental and communications director. Bennett said even though the long-term goal is to make Lake Tapps a source of drinking water, keeping the water clean also provides benefits to the community around the reservoir.

“Cascade Water Alliance owns Lake Tapps for future water supply and that’s not going to happen for many years into the future, but thinking about the future, the cleaner the water, the better for water supply. And it is obviously an important recreational lake for the community … the cleaner the lake is, the better it is for all the residents around the lake, for people who live there, for people who recreate there,” she said.

Experts from alliance and other agencies will be on hand to take questions from the public.

“The main purpose of the open house is for Lake Tapps residents to come to the meeting, to learn more about Lake Tapps, to learn more about how it is operated, to hear about issues residents are usually interested in, and primarily we do the open house so that residents can come and ask questions,” Bennett said.

The open house will run 6-8 p.m. at North Tapps Middle School, 20029 12th St. E., Bonney Lake.
