Motorcyclist killed in vehicle collision in Tacoma ran red light, police say
A vehicle collision early Wednesday morning in Central Tacoma left one man dead and led to road closures for several hours, according to Tacoma Police Department.
The wreck occurred about 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of South 19th Street and Sprague Avenue, police said. A motorcyclist traveling south on Sprague ran a red light and struck a westbound pickup truck going through the intersection.
The intersection was shut down until about 5 a.m. The on- and off-ramps from state Route 16 to Sprague Avenue were blocked while emergency responders and the collision investigation team were on the scene.
Police spokesperson Wendy Haddow said the motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man has not been publicly identified.
The driver of the pickup truck was a 64-year-old man. Haddow said he went to the hospital with minor pain.
