Traffic delays and entrance closures on tap at Point Defiance for Sound to Narrows

The 50th annual Sound to Narrows race Saturday will necessitate closures and traffic delays around Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

According to a news release from Metro Parks Tacoma, there will be a temporary closure at the Mildred Street and Pearl Street entrances to the park Saturday.

For safety reasons, the Mildred Street entrance will be closed from approximately 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and Pearl Street entrance from approximately 7:30 a.m.-9:45 a.m.

Parking for both Point Defiance Park and Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium will be available in Ruston and North Tacoma, Metro Parks Tacoma said.

The parking lot for Vassault Park, which is a hub of race activities, will be closed starting Friday and reopen Saturday at about 1 p.m.

People using the ferry terminal should be on the lookout for Tacoma police officers, who will be directing ferry traffic accessing Ferry Road during the race.
