Cooler weekend weather will give way to more heat, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures ramp up Monday in the Tacoma and Olympia areas, then will point a little higher on Tuesday and Wednesday before cooling again going into Labor Day Weekend, said NWS meteorologist Dustin Guy.

Tacoma area residents can expect about 80 degrees on Monday, followed by upper 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Olympia, the week will start off with a daytime high of 85, followed by 90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, Guy said.

“Which is warmest is a tough call,” said Guy about whether the high temperature for the week is Tuesday or hump day.

There’s also a chance some records fall this week, he said.

The daytime high for Seattle/Tacoma on Tuesday is 88 degrees, which was set on that date in 1987. In Olympia, it is 90 degrees for the same date and same year.

As for Wednesday’s all-time high, it is 92 degrees for Seattle/Tacoma, which again was set on that date in 1987. And for Olympia it’s 94 degrees, also set in 1987.

As for the remainder of the week, temperatures in the region are expected to cool to the lower 70s, then inch higher to about 80 on Saturday, Guy said.
