Sunny days and warm temperatures occurred simultaneously this week. It was almost enough to wake the cherry trees. Olympia reached 55 on Thursday and 54 on Friday.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to last. The cold returns Sunday night. That’s when a front will reach the South Sound, according to the National Weather Service. Expect breezy conditions, lowland rain and mountain snow.

The lowlands will see 1/10-inch of rain on Monday, according to NWS meteorologist Matthew Cullen.

Rain will taper off by Tuesday morning. If there’s any moisture left behind, temperatures will be cool enough to bring snow levels down to near sea level.

On Monday night, Tacoma will see a low of 31 and Olympia will hover around 30. Lows on Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the high 20s or low 30s for both areas.

While there’s a chance for snow both Monday and Tuesday, it won’t be enough to pull out your skis.

“We are not expecting a large accumulation by any stretch,” Cullen said. “You might get a (snow) shower and the next street over doesn’t.”
