Sun is shining on the South Sound. Here’s how long you get to enjoy before gray spell

Enjoy a dose of warm sunshine on Saturday, and don’t fear the couple days of gray and wet forecast to bring in May. Above-average temperatures should return by midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

“Despite a cool down early next week, the 6 to 10 day outlook continues with above normal temperatures,” the NWS Seattle forecast office wrote in a tweet.

Previous record-high daily temperatures fell across western Washington on Friday, including areas around Olympia, Seattle and Everett, NWS Seattle tweeted. Tacoma and Bellingham both fell a couple degrees short.

The Saturday forecast shows high temperatures of 76 degrees in Tacoma and 75 in Olympia. The sun is expected to be out all day and won’t set until after 8 p.m. Tacoma’s record high for April 29 is 77 degrees, set in 1989. Olympia saw its all-time daily high of 81 in 1957.

But take precautions before taking a dip in a lake or the Sound. Officials have warned people about swimming around the region during the warm weather because water temperatures remain frigid. Hypothermia becomes a risk when the water is 70 degrees or cooler, officials say.

On Sunday and Monday, temperatures are expected to cool off to highs around 60 degrees with wind and clouds in Tacoma and Olympia. The NWS forecast has the chances of rain between 20% and 30% for both regions on those days.

Sun and temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s are forecast for midweek in Tacoma and Olympia, with chances of rain and colder temperatures returning on Thursday and Friday.
