There’s an arts and culture festival at Tacoma’s Wright Park this weekend. Details here
Food, music, cultural performances and craft vendors will fill Wright Park for a two-day annual art and cultural event this weekend.
Tacoma’s MOSAIC Arts and Culture Festival will be held on Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, from noon to 7 p.m. at Wright Park for its 35th year in a row. The festival is all ages and free.
Metro Parks Board president Andrea Smith and Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards will deliver a welcome message at the opening ceremony, according to a news release.
“MOSAIC truly lives up to its name and gives us an up-close look at the diversity of cultures that make up the larger picture of Tacoma community,” Smith said in the release. “Even after 35 years of celebration, there are new stories to be told and songs to be shared about the rich backgrounds and journeys that led to where we are today. I’m glad for the opportunity to join Mayor Woodards in a message of welcome to this year’s festival attendees.”
The festival will feature a beer garden hosted by Redefining You Foundation, a Washington-based nonprofit, food trucks with a variety of cuisines and more than 100 different multicultural arts-and-crafts vendors, plus information and commercial vendors such as NAACP Tacoma Branch and Community Health Care.
The event will have a main stage near the north side of the park and a community stage at the south side near the playground.
Both stages will have a number of cultural performances by community groups, including Folklore Mexicano, authentic music and dance of Hawaii, Cambodia and Thailand. Performance schedules will be posted in front of the stages each day.
Luchadores from Lucha Volcanica will demonstrate a professional form of wrestling that originated in Mexico on Saturday.
There will also be a kids zone that has bounce houses, a splash park and other activities for children.
Parking
There will be limited free street parking around Wright Park.
People attending the event are asked to carpool or use public transportation, according to the Metro Parks Tacoma website.
Pierce Transit offers bus services from multiple routes to Wright Park. A full bus schedule and fare information is available on the Pierce Transit website.
Pierce Transit also offers ADA transportation on their Paratransit shuttle for people who are unable to ride a Pierce transit bus due to their disability. The shuttle will drop-off people closer to the festival. Shuttle fares and more information is available on the Pierce Transit website.
