Two people died in a collision at the toll plaza at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on Friday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo, a pickup carrying two people entered the toll plaza about 2 p.m.. The pickup allegedly had its cruise control on and it did not slow down before it hit a black car in the plaza. Two people in the car died, Dattilo said.

The two people in the truck were taken to a hospital.

No toll booth workers were injured in the collision, and the crash is being investigated.

The state Department of Transportation said via email about 4:30 p.m. that the toll plaza was temporarily closed though all eastbound lanes of state Route 16 remained open. Drivers who do not have a Good2Go account would receive a bill in the mail for their toll, the agency said.
