Pedestrian dead in Spanaway following crash on state Route 7, state troopers say

A 40-year-old Tacoma man died after being struck by a car in Spanaway Monday night.

Washington State Patrol received a prior call that the man was walking in and out of traffic on state Route 7. Before a trooper could make it to the man, he had been struck by a car, Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo said.

The car was traveling south on Route 7 and approached 8th Avenue East about 7:44 p.m. In one of the lanes, the man was crossing outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by the car. The car stopped at a parking lot after the crash, according to a news release.

The man died at the scene, and the roadway was closed for two hours and four minutes, the release said.
