Wind advisory issued in the Tacoma area as wet weather forecast to continue into the week
A wind advisory impacting the Tacoma area was in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday, warning of gusts as high as 45 mph, and weekend rainfall was expected to linger into the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory said that 15 to 25 mph southwesterly winds were expected with gusts between 35 to 45 mph, and warned of potential power outages and fallen tree limbs, urging motorists to use extra caution when driving.
The winds were part of a weather front moving through western Washington on Saturday that could also bring isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, most likely along the coast, and showers at night, the NWS said. Another system arriving Sunday was expected to feature less rain and lighter winds, with more systems prompting forecasts of showers and breezy winds into next week.
New rainfall on Saturday was expected to amount to between a tenth and quarter-inch in the Tacoma area, while systems continuing into the week could result in as much as a half-inch of rain, the NWS said.
Meanwhile, high temperatures in the Tacoma area were expected to dip from 59 degrees on Saturday into the mid-to-low 50s throughout much of the week, with a low of 48 degrees this weekend falling to 42 degrees by Tuesday night, according to the NWS.
There were chances of showers on Wednesday and Thursday, when it’s also forecast to be partly sunny with highs near 50 degrees.
