Lakewood drivers: Upcoming road work. Expect closures and detours for awhile
As the city of Lakewood begins improvement projects, drivers will need to use an alternative route for Hipkins Road starting Monday Dec. 11.
Work will take place in “segments,” according to a city of Lakewood news release.
Crews will first close Hipkins Road from Steilacoom Boulevard and Angle Lane on Monday.
“The first part of the construction replaces the water main underground,” according to the news release. “This work is expected to take up the majority of the first few months of the project.”
Drivers will need to use a detour route that will take them from 104th Street onto Hipkins. Then they’ll turn onto Angle Lane, then onto Elwood Drive before connecting to Steilacoom Boulevard.
Other improvements to come include “addition of curbs/gutters, sidewalks, stormwater systems, asphalt paving and streetlights,” the news release said.
Improvement work is expected to begin around spring or summer to “Steilacoom Boulevard between 87th Avenue SW to Weller Road SW.”
“Over the next year and a half the city expects to complete five more road improvement projects in this area, including near Farwest Drive, Interlaaken Boulevard, 112th Street near Holden Road, 112th Street near Idlewild and along Idlewild,” the city said in its new release.
The city of Lakewood also made the announced about Hipkins on X, formerly known as twitter.
