A 20-year-old Spanaway driver was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Saturday afternoon after he crashed into cars on southbound I-5, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Witnesses say the man drove into those cars intentionally, Sgt. Doug Simmons said Sunday.

About 1:50 p.m., the man was headed south on the freeway in the area of 84th Street, near Lakewood, when troopers began receiving reports of a vehicle being driven erratically and intentionally into other vehicles.

Lakewood Police ultimately detained the man’s vehicle and took him into custody without incident and transferred him over to State Patrol, Trooper John Dattilo said via social media.

The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of five counts of hit and run attended and five counts of first-degree assault, according to Dattilo.
