A three-car crash on northbound I-5 near the Joint Base Lewis-McChord military base is causing backups Wednesday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 2:08 p.m. and is blocking two of the right lanes at mile post 121.23. There is also heavy congestion, according to WSDOT Tacoma on X.

The crash involves two cars and a box truck, according to Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo.

The official JBLM X account posted that there are injuries reported. Traffic is also backed up before exit 122 all the way to exit 118. Drivers should use alternate routes until further notice.

A 16-year-old said they had chest pain so they were taken to the hospital as a cautionary measure. No other injuries have been reported for this crash, Dattilo said.

As of 3:18 p.m., the crash has cleared, WSDOT Tacoma said on X.
