Tip leads to stolen Tacoma Habitat for Humanity truck. Here’s where it was found
A delivery truck stolen from a Tacoma charity’s warehouse over Christmas was found on a street in Redmond Thursday.
Habitat for Humanity had the truck locked in its warehouse during the holiday break when a thief or thieves broke into the building and stole it. The charity had purchased the 2017 Ford F650 box truck for $56,000 in November to use for deliveries and pick-ups.
On Thursday night, an anonymous tipster who had seen media coverage of the theft called the charity to report the truck was parked on a street in Redmond. After police processed the vehicle, Habitat brought the truck back to Tacoma on Friday.
“We just parked it and locked it up really tight,” said Sherrana Kildun, Habitat’s chief development officer.
Good to Go pass hits revealed that the truck had traveled on state routes 99 and 520 while it was in the possession of thieves, she said. The truck was found in good condition.
On Friday, Kildun was grateful the tipster and media coverage.
“Habitat is about neighbors helping neighbors, and this is a great example of that,” Kildun said.
Kildun said the theft likely won’t be repeated. The charity is beefing up its security.
