Explosion severely damages garage in Pierce County. Man taken to hospital, deputies say

An explosion inside a garage in Pierce County left one man hospitalized over the weekend.

Pierce County deputies were dispatched on Sunday at 4:28 p.m. after neighbors reported an explosion in the area of 24th Avenue East and 96th Street East in the Midland area. There was smoke coming from the garage, the Sheriff’s Department posted on X.

A man was taken the hospital and the garage was heavily damaged. The fire department stabilized the wall and roof to allow detectives to investigate. The man’s condition is unknown, the post said.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
