JBLM fire forcing lane closures and traffic jams on Interstate 5 Monday afternoon

UPDATE 5 p.m.: All lanes are open but traffic is still stop and go from state Route 512 to just beyond the scene at JBLM’s main gate (41st Division Drive).

Original story: A brush fire along Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s main gate is causing a traffic jam in the southbound lanes Monday afternoon.

The fire has caused the right two lanes in the southbound lanes to close while crews works to extinguish the flames, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Southbound I-5 is stop and go nearly to state Route 512.
