A 6-year-old boy who was found unresponsive while swimming with his family at Wapato Lake in July has died, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Tacoma boy was pulled out of the lake in the 6800 block of South Cushman Avenue on July 18. It is unknown how long he had been in the water, The News Tribune previously reported.

Police began CPR on the child, and Tacoma Fire personnel continued life-saving efforts. He was taken to the hospital, the story said.

Tacoma Police Department did not have an immediate update on the boy’s condition at the time.

The medical examiner confirmed in a news release on Thursday that the boy died. His cause and manner of death is listed as “pending.” That is a temporary designation used when additional investigation, information and/or test results are required for certification.

An online obituary said the boy died on July 20. He was loved by many, the obituary said.
